Construction work is underway on the £3.3 million transformation of South Molton Medical Centre in Devon, following the appointment of Morgan Sindall Construction.
The project for South Molton Health Centre & East Street Surgery includes the expansion and refurbishment of the medical centre, allowing staff to continue to provide modern day healthcare to patients.
The scheme is jointly-funded by the South Molton Medical Centre Partnership and the NHS England Estates and Technology Transformation Fund. The national funding programme supports GP practices to make improvements to services for local patients, including more modern, expanded facilities and use of new technologies.
Construction work is expected to complete in early 2019.
Nigel Whelan, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “This development of South Molton Medical Centre will significantly enhance healthcare services for local residents. The upgrade to the medical centre will create a first-class, spacious facility that is suited for modern healthcare.
“Morgan Sindall Construction is delighted to have been appointed to deliver the expansion and refurbishment and we look forward to handing over a much improved facility on completion.”
Laila Pennington, Head of Primary Care for NHS England in the South West, said: “These are really exciting plans that the surgery has developed – they should make a real difference for patients. We’re pleased to be able to add funding to an impressive scheme that will stand the town in good stead for years to come.”
Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on-site at significant schemes across the region. The company has been appointed to design and build a £28 million sports facility for Southampton Solent University. The project is expected to complete in the summer of 2019.
