Morgan Sindall Construction completes Inverness Gaelic Primary School expansion

News |

Morgan Sindall Construction has completed work on an 800 square metre expansion to Inverness Gaelic Primary School (Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis), for longstanding customer, The Highland Council.

The contract was tendered through the Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA) framework, which supports the efficient construction, refurbishment and maintenance of social housing and public buildings throughout the country.

Work on the project began in August last year [2019]. It has been completed in less than five months due to the use of innovative offsite construction methods. The new self-contained annexe houses four classrooms, toilets, a staffroom, an administration room, and a full commercial kitchen and dining hall.

The additional teaching space will enable the school, which is located to the south of the city centre, to support an additional 110 nursery and early years pupils.

Opened in 2007, the school teaches in the medium of Gaelic and has proved increasingly popular with the local community in recent years.

Ian MacDonald, special works manager at Morgan Sindall Construction in Scotland, said: “Modular construction is being adopted quickly in education, largely due to the speed and quality it offers, along with relative lack of disruption to school life in comparison to traditional methods
“The expandable nature of the units also means facilities can be further extended to meet future demand for school places.
“We have great collaborative relationships with both The Highland Council and the SPA Framework, and we’re very pleased to hand over this latest project ahead of schedule.”
Chairman of the Education Committee, John Finlayson said: “It is good to see this work completed to meet both the needs of the school and also to support the expansion of early learning and childcare. I am sure staff, parents and pupils will all be delighted with the completion of this important project.”
