Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties office has marked a strong start to the year following a raft of education contract wins across the region.
Work has recently started on two major projects to expand and refurbish Vandyke Upper School and Gilbert Inglefield Academy in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, worth a combined value of £16.7 million.
The schemes, which sit next to each other on Vandyke Road, include both remodelling and new build elements to each site, creating an additional 240 new school places at each school.
Morgan Sindall Construction was appointed to the projects for both schools via the Southern Construction Framework (SCF).
At Vandyke Upper School, the £10.2 million scheme will involve the construction of a modular, three storey block of 12 science labs, 10 mathematics classrooms and a sixth form centre. This will be the fourth off site project delivered by the Northern Home Counties team employing modern methods of construction in the last two years.
The £6.5 million project at Gilbert Inglefield Academy will see the addition of a new teaching building, providing the school with 10 new classrooms, a new three-court sports hall and two IT labs, as well as the remodelling of the existing building to provide school users with a new kitchen and dining area.
Elsewhere in the region, the company been selected to deliver a new £29 million ‘all-through’ school in Wavendon, Milton Keynes.
Milton Keynes Council has named the company as preferred bidder to deliver a new 1,530 place school under a pre-construction services agreement, via the Pagabo national framework for major construction works.
The school, located at Glebe Farm, will be open to pupils aged five to 16 and will also include a nursery with the equivalent of 39 full time places.
In Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, the company has also been selected as preferred bidder to design and build a new primary school with a construction cost of c.£9 million. Kingsbrook View Primary Academy will be delivered on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council and will comprise a new build, two-form entry primary school for 420 pupils and a 52-place nursery.
