Morgan Sindall Construction has been selected as preferred bidder on the development of a new teaching facility at Hailsham Community College in Hailsham, East Sussex.
The £10 million scheme will be delivered for East Sussex County Council, with the school being run by Hailsham Community College Academy Trust, and follows the successful completion of Hailsham Primary School, a brand new two-form entry primary and nursery school within the same Academy Trust, which the company delivered in 45 weeks, 11 weeks ahead of schedule.
The project was procured through the Orbis framework, which is a shared services partnership between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council, and Surrey County Council.
The new development is designed to cater for 300 additional 11-16-year-old places and 100 sixth form places. Plans include a brand new 2,700 square metre teaching block with state of the art science, technology, art, special education needs (SEN) and general teaching spaces, along with various upgrades to the existing school and a new all-weather sports pitch.
Morgan Sindall Construction looks to utilise similar construction methods used in the Hailsham Primary School project, including implementing a panelised modular system during the early stage of the build process.
This ensures a shorter timescale for project completion and a smaller volume of deliveries to the construction site, which goes towards reducing the carbon footprint of the project and greatly reduces the impact on local roads and infrastructure throughout the construction phase.
Guy Hannell, Morgan Sindall Construction’s Southern Home Counties area director, said: “We are delighted to be selected as preferred bidder on this important next state-of-the-art development for East Sussex County Council, with Hailsham Community College Academy Trust.
The success of our modern methods during the construction of Hailsham Primary School is a testament not only to the close collaboration between project partners, but also Morgan Sindall Construction’s commitment to providing inspiring, world-class facilities that incorporate the best in social value and environmental sustainability.
We look forward to continuing our close working relationships with East Sussex County Council and Hailsham Community College Academy Trust, as well as our wider project partners, throughout the life of this scheme.”
An East Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “We have been delighted with the award winning, high quality, recent early completion of the new primary school in Hailsham and look forward to Morgan Sindall Construction bringing their expertise in modular construction and customer-focused approach to this new school project”.
Morgan Sindall Construction has also recently delivered 12 brand new homes in Hangleton ahead of schedule, as part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s New Homes for Neighbourhood programme.
The development provides much-needed affordable council housing in the area, while also giving residents high-quality homes with modern living space and will be among the first tranche of properties advertised under Brighton & Hove City Council’s lettings scheme since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown.
