Morgan Sindall Construction has celebrated the completion of a major project to transform one of Hertfordshire’s oldest cricket club grounds into a first-class sporting centre.
The project for Hitchin Cricket Club and Blueharts Hockey Club has revitalised the ground at Lucas Lane – creating a future-fit sporting centre for the community at the ground, which was established in 1866.
The Morgan Sindall Construction project team joined club members to mark the official completion of the new facilities during a celebratory ceremony at the ground.
The club now boasts a new two-storey club pavilion, with catering facilities, a bar and a function room and a balcony overlooking a new all-weather hockey pitch. The works also included the construction of new changing rooms, an equipment store, cricket nets, and a brand new scoreboard.
The upgrade is part of the club’s vision to develop the ground into a new and improved sporting centre for its members and the wider community. Works included the demolition of the ground’s existing clubhouse, the construction of a new external car park and extensive soft landscaping to create an attractive environment.
The club’s key summer months, from April to August, coincided with the busiest construction period on site. However, the Morgan Sindall Construction team was able to limit the impact of works by providing safe and suitable access to cricketers of all ages throughout the busy cricket season – enabling them to enjoy a full Senior and Colts cricket season at their ground.
David Rowsell, Morgan Sindall Construction’s area director for the Northern Home Counties, said: “We are delighted with the outcome of the completed project, the new Cricket Club Ground is a fantastic community asset with professional standard facilities that will support the needs and ambitions of two local teams long into the future.
“We are confident that the refurbished facilities will enable the club to build upon their rich local history at the Lucas Lane site and provide a brilliant community sporting resource for generations to come.”
Hitchin Town Cricket-Ground Chairman Geoff Edwards commented: "Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure helped us to deliver a state of the art new home for Hitchin Cricket Club and Blue-harts Hockey Club at Lucas Lane.
“It is a truly exceptional facility that will be enjoyed by our members and the local community for many years to come. We would like to thank the whole team at Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure for their hard work, dedication and professionalism throughout this project, and for helping us to achieve this pivotal milestone in the history of both clubs."
