Works begin to transform Camden Methodist Church into four star hotel and worship space
Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to a major project to refurbish and remodel Camden Methodist Church as the upper floors of the building are transformed into a four-star hotel run by The Wesley Hotel.
The project will see the historic building, which is located in Camden Town Conservation Area within one of London’s most popular tourist areas off Camden High Street, renovated and sensitively refurbished to retain its historic façade and finishings which date from the 1800s.
The lower ground floor of the building will continue to be used as a church worship space and will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment to create modern and accessible facilities for church and community use.
The building’s upper floors will house the luxury 39-bed hotel located across the ground to fourth floors and will be sensitively remodelled to retain its historic character.
The hotel will feature one disabled room and three ambulant disabled rooms. All levels of the building will be served by a passenger lift for guests with a goods lift for hotel servicing.
The building’s upper floors will also feature high acoustic ratings to minimise transfer of sound between the hotel and the church and a high-performing acoustic ceiling will be installed in the lower ground floor worship space. The building aims to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating in keeping with the environmental standards the client strives to achieve.

Alison Olugunna of The Methodist Church said: “The Methodist Council are delighted to see refurbishment works start at Camden Town Methodist Church. Until April 2019, the building had served as an invaluable place of worship and space for community outreach work. The building had reached the end of its functional life and was therefore in need of major refurbishment. The works will see the building remodelled as a modern space for worship and community use fit to serve the community of Camden. The project also includes a 39-bed boutique hotel on the ground to fourth floors which will be managed by The Wesley.
