Our approach

As the local Hailsham community expands, there was a definite need for a new primary school. Hailsham Community College Primary Academy was procured through the Orbis framework, a shared services partnership between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and Surrey County Council.

The modular panels were produced off site by Streif, and arrived on site complete with external doors and fully glazed windows in just 35 deliveries. This method of construction meant that there was an estimated 75% reduction in operative journeys to site, which equates to around 84,000 miles saved – a huge reduction in CO2 emissions, which also had the benefit of minimising the impact on local roads and the community around the school through the construction phase.

In addition to the environmental benefits offered by the modular off-site production methods, the project team on site also worked closely with the community, engaging with local schools to introduce construction as a career to more than 1,300 students, volunteering over 470 hours to local organisations, and raising over £20,500 for charity.
