Our approach

As the main contractor for all non-housing projects with Slough Urban Renewal, we are committed to the regeneration of the town.

The leisure facilities we have delivered include:

Arbour Park Community Sports Stadium

Value: £12.3 million, completed: 2017

The home of Slough Town Football Club, this 1,950-capacity stadium was built in two carefully-planned phases, so that the club could continue to play their home matches. Facilities included a 3G pitch, changing facilities and a bar and kitchen. In addition, the team also delivered a separate four court sports hall and a four classroom refurbishment for St Joseph’s Catholic High School, which is adjacent to the stadium.

Centre Site Leisure

Value: £18.6 million, completed: 2019

This brand new, steel-frame facility replaced an older leisure centre. It features two swimming pools, a four-court sports hall, treatment rooms, café, wet and dry changing rooms, soft play area, fitness suite and three studios.

Salt Hill Activity Centre

Value: £6 million, completed: 2018

This all-weather indoor fun and adventure centre was transformed from a ten-pin bowling alley. The refurbishment works extended the offering to include a soft play area, high rope course, trampolines and five party rooms, as well as a bar and cafe.

Langley Leisure Centre

Value: £7.5 million, completion: 2018

This popular local leisure centre was in need of refurbishment after 20 years’ use. We constructed an extension to the gym, which included new fitness and spinning studios, as well as creating new parking spaces. The two pools were refurbished by a team of eight divers, which meant that the project team did not have to drain the pools.

I'm very pleased with the new facilities that have been improved by Slough Borough Council. Langley Leisure Centre is now one of the most efficient and well equipped facilities within and around the Borough. The local residents now have a facility available to them which can help them become more active, more often. The feedback has been amazing and we look forward to continued use from the local community!

Slough Ice Arena

Value: £10.2 million, completed: 2018

We extended and refurbished the existing Slough Ice Arena to provide a modern, larger ice facility complemented by a new climbing centre.

The extended Ice Arena’s structure features three wooden glulam beam arches, each of which weighs three tonnes and stands at 30 metres wide and 12 metres high. Works also included a two-storey canopy extension that houses a new entrance, reception, café, gym, climbing wall and clip n' climb facility.

A re-clad of the building has improved its external appearance, whilst extensive landscaping and public realm works transformed the space outside the arena, creating a strong visual link to the adjacent Bath Road and Salt Hill Park.

The building is nicknamed ‘The Hangar’ by fans of the Slough Jets ice hockey team, which is based at the arena and makes use of the new ice pad, spectator seating, lighting and refurbished changing facilities. The project has revitalised this popular leisure destination, enabling it to serve the community for years to come.

The success of the grand opening this weekend and all the positive comments from local people is testament to the hard work and effort the Morgan Sindall Construction team have put into this major refurbishment and extension.

The Curve

Value: £22 million, completed: 2016

The Curve is Slough Borough Council’s flagship scheme that seeks to transform the town centre, and was the first project undertaken through Slough Urban Renewal.

This unique building features a library, community learning rooms, registrar services, a café, a 280-seater performance space and a garden area.

At 90 metres long and 15 metres high, The Curve creates a welcoming pedestrian link between William Street, through to Mackenzie Square, and creates two new urban squares at each end of the building, enriching the pedestrian route with places to pause and enjoy the building in its space.

Old Library Site

Value: £48 million, completed: Ongoing (due to complete 2021)

On the site of the former library, two new hotels are under construction as part of a mixed-use regeneration scheme in the heart of Slough’s town centre.

Once complete, the nine-storey development will feature two new Marriott International hotels; operated under the Moxy and Residence Inn brands, along with 64 residential apartments.

The hotels will feature 244 luxury bedrooms in total, and there will be an additional 4,100 square foot of restaurant and retail space.

Delivering school places for the Slough area

We have delivered the following education sector projects:

Claycots Primary School

Value: £8.2 million, completed: 2017

Located in the former Town Hall, Claycots Primary School underwent a superb extension to become the largest primary school in the UK. The expansion included the construction of a three-storey steel frame extension, which houses 15 new classrooms, along with a new kitchen, multi-use hall and library. Refurbishment works in the original building included the removal of a staircase, and providing new office space for the headteacher and senior team by creating a new floor in the old hall.

James Elliman Academy

Value: £5.3 million, completed: 2017

A single-storey extension was required to take James Elliman Academy from a three-form-entry school, to a four-form entry one, adding over 200 pupils to its capacity. The works included an expanded dining hall, along with seven new classrooms, a library, additional administration services, and a fully refurbished and expanded car park and associated landscaping works.

Priory School SEN Extension

Value: £2.6 million, completed: 2018

Priory School is a large, inclusive primary school, with over 900 pupils. This project consolidated the existing 60 place resource unit for children with a range of complex needs into one purpose-built facility. The single-storey unit includes five classrooms, sensory room and soft play areas, as well as a covered walkway to allow integration to the main school. Outdoor play areas were also created.

St Mary’s CE Primary School

Value: £7.5 million, completed: 2017

With a single-storey and a two-storey extension, St Mary’s went from a two-form-entry to a three-form-entry school. This was completed alongside remodelling and refurbishment works to the existing school building, providing additional teaching space, a large hall, staff room and offices, and a new car park. With the requirement for the school to be significantly more sustainable than previously, a number of approaches were used, from an air-tight, super insulated building envelope and high performance doors and windows, to roof lights that provide excellent levels of daytime lighting to all teaching areas.

Wexham School Sports College

Value: £10.19 million, completed: 2018

The combined requirements of expanding pupil numbers and a need for a new, modern learning resource centre and sixth form study area at Wexham School Sports College have resulted in this three-storey extension. Also housing 28 classrooms and reception area, the new block replaced an existing one, that was subsequently demolished. Additional works were also undertaken to turn the old library into two new science laboratories.

It's taken the environment of this school to another level. It's an incredible building and the children are really looking after it. To go from what we had into this, has been a magnificent change for the school, and our children feel like they've been significantly invested in - that's what it's all about. Our sixth formers said they feel very lucky and really special. Younger pupils said it looked like a posh hotel! It looks fantastic and has made such a difference. The students are incredibly pleased with outcome and my staff and I are as well.
